Green Ice Cream

Published by dtsun16 at 1:36 am under Narrative Edit This

A father and his son spend the day together, a warm summer Saturday afternoon.  The father surprises his young son by taking him out for an ice cream cone from the local ice cream shop near their house.  While walking into the shop the young boy looks around the shop at all the flavors and smells the sweet sugary aroma in the air.  Excited the boy looks at every flavor before making his decision.  When it’s their turn the father asks the boy which flavor he would like.  The boy has locked his eyes onto the green bowl in the top right corner.

“I want that one!” the boy said smiling.

Reading the label which said, macadamia nut, the father asked, “Are you sure?”

“yes I want that one.” Said the boy again.

“I don’t think you will like that one, it’s macadamia, you don’t like macadamia” the father reasoned, with concern.

“Dad!” cried the boy, “I know what I want!  I want the green one there”.

Giving in the father asks the server for a single scoop in a sugar cone of the macadamia nut, and also asks for a single scoop of the mint chocolate chip ice cream from the other side of the assortment.  The ice cream is scooped, served and paid for.  As the two walk outside the father kept a close eye on his son, who tries his ice cream and makes a funny face.

“How does it taste?” the father asks.

“I don’t like it” says the son, “what did you get?”

“do you want to trade?” asked the father with a smile.

            “ok”

The two switch cones and walk to the car.  The boy licks his mint chocolate chip and smiles as the dad graciously opens the door for his son and takes a lick of his own green macadamia ice cream.
